Examples

Demolition of a bunker. When dismantling an old high-rise bunker in Hamburg, two ER 1500 XL series milling machines are working their way from top to bottom, milling the up to 3.5 m thick concrete slabs and walls from the inside out completely without difficulty. In the process, parts of the outer walls are left standing to protect them from noise, dust and possible rockfall, and are only demolished at the end of the operation. Demolition of a bunker The removal of 18.500m³ of material in a period of 6 weeks is involved WIWA Wilko Wagner is one of the of the leading demolition companies in the northern part of Germany. Included in the many large projects carried out by the company in 2009 was the demolition of an air defence bunker built in 1941, located in Stephanstrasse. To comply with environmental requirements, it was decided to use two Erkat rotary drum cutters rather than hydraulic breakers. With low noise and vibration levels, the drum cutters eat through the heavily re-enforced concrete. Once the thickness of the walls has been reduced from 1.5m to 1m by the drum cutters, they can then be broken using shearers. Mr Ingo Wegert, the foreman on the job site, says that this method has proven itself to be very effective for the demolition of several bunkers. A drum cutter type ER 2000-2 mounted on a Liebherr 944 worked on the walls and it easily tore through the 15mm thick re-enforcement. The production rate for the ER 2000-2 was estimated at between 10 and 15 m³/hr. An Erkat ER 1500-3 was mounted on a Komatsu PC 210 and was used to cut the 1.5m thick floor which was under water.
